Our Mental Health Division provides behavioral health services in a primary care setting. Our Mental Health Expert primarily uses a cognitive behavioral treatment approach as this is considered best practice for most psychological problems.
Mental Health's primary areas of treatment involve: Individual, couples and group counseling for a variety of issues including depression, anxiety and stress, substance use and behavioral medicine (addressing psychological and behavioral factors that adversely affect the course of a medical condition including treatment of co-morbid psychological disorders, facilitating adjustment to a chronic illness / chronic pain, teaching behavioral management of symptoms and assisting in treatment planning to increase adherence to a treatment regime).
Though working primarily with an adult population, our Mental Health specialist sees some adolescents, mainly for treatment of anxiety disorders. Our Mental Health Division is also a part of the IU Athletic Department sports medicine team, providing counseling for a variety of issues to student-athletes.
